Extra credit Literature Analysis #2

1.      In William Golding’s novel Lord of the Flies there are a group of kids that are stranded in an island. There is Ralph, the chief, Jack, the hunter, Piggy, the intelligent, Simon, the calm one, and the rest were the little uns and some other biguns. Throughout the novel, the characters face an amount of tragic event and along with that come conflict. The first tragic event that they face as a group of kids trying to survive is when they make a fire to signal for help. The fire managed to grow out of control and along comes the first victim, a little un with a birthmark. The kid with the birthmark was behind the idea of the bees. Then, they accidentally killed Simon thinking he was the beast. The day after Jack goes to steal Piggy’s glasses. Ralph and Piggy go claim Piggy's glasses but are surprised with Roger attempting to kill Ralph with a boulder. Ralph dodges the boulder but unfortunately Piggy is pushed off the cliff when the boulder got to him. That leaving the conch shattered. After Piggy’s death they try to kill Ralph again. Ralph runs and hides in a thicket. The next day, they force Ralph out of the thicket by setting it on fire. He is chased by Jack’s tribe when a naval officer spots the fire and gets closer because of curiosity. Thanks to the curiosity of the officer Ralph is seen and saved from the killing coming his way.
2.      The theme of the book is there is evil in people. The author chose this them to show people that other people can be mean.
3.      I chose the book because our class was reading it. It got my attention because of its name; I wandered why it was called like that.  What made me keep reading was how kids would survive in an island without authority.
4.      I found the book to be realistic because it shows how people can be evil.
5.      The author’s tone is expressed trough out the novel when the kids change and turn the whole island evil.
6.      Symbolism: the fire symbols hope. The conch symbols the intelligence in the island. The glasses symbol the way to make the fire for rescue.
Characterization
1.       Direct characterization: When the author describes Jack as an ugly kid. Also when the author tells us that Piggy is fat and has asthma
Indirect characterization: When I figured out that Simon is a calm kid because he loves flowers.
2.      The author change as the novel gets more interesting and so do the characters.
3.      The protagonist is dynamic and is round because at the begging of the novel he is all about rescue and at the end it is about surviving.
Enduring Memory
I would remember the part were Piggy died because they were very evil and it was just kids. Now I imagine what would happen, if there would be no authority. I think it would be chaos.
