Conformity

People who are different and have different things like tattoos and piercings are discouraged by society. In Logan Feys’s article, “The society of Leopard Man,” he states that, “society tends to discourage people from expressing their unique ideas and behaving in ways that are different from their peers.” I think that the author is correct; people discourage others that are different because they do it to get attention.
The author mentioned that, “the society tends to discourage people from expressing their unique ideas and behaving in ways that are different from their peers.” Feys means that society discourages people that are different because they only do it to get attention from others. They want to fit in with the rest of the people.
The author also mentioned how society discourages other people when he says, “society looks down upon freakish and extraordinary individuals alike and views them with suspicion.” What that means is that societies put down others that are different. They even call them freakish and view them with suspicion. People judge others without even knowing them. They do this because they are afraid of dealing with conformity.
Feys also states, “such people are desperate for society’s attention.” He means that they go over board to change their appearance and behavior to receive attention. He also states, “from time to time, get society out of your life and out of your mind.” He means that you can be different and at the same time fit in.
I do agree with Feys’s idea about how society puts down those that try to fit in. They are being conformed. So forget about society and be yourself. Let yourself be free but don’t unleash the freak within you.
